SCIENCE BEHIND THE FORMULA

Understanding why our 11-11-40 formula works so well for peppers and herbs requires looking at the unique nutritional needs of these plants throughout their growth cycle.

The Role of Each Nutrient

Balanced Nitrogen (11%): Peppers and herbs need moderate nitrogen levels to maintain healthy foliage without promoting excessive vegetative growth. This balanced approach ensures plants focus energy on flowering, fruiting, and essential oil production rather than just leaf development.

Balanced Phosphorus (11%): During flowering and essential oil development, these plants have specific phosphorus demands. This element is crucial for:

  • Energy transfer (ATP production)
  • Root development and nutrient uptake
  • Flower formation and fruit set
  • Essential oil and aromatic compound synthesis
  • Seed development within fruits

Very High Potassium (40%): Peppers and herbs are heavy potassium feeders, especially during fruit development and oil production. Potassium serves multiple critical functions:

  • Regulates water movement and turgor pressure
  • Activates over 60 enzyme systems
  • Enhances photosynthesis and sugar transport
  • Strengthens cell walls for disease resistance
  • Improves fruit quality, size, and capsaicin content in peppers
  • Increases essential oil concentration in herbs
  • Enhances flavor intensity and aroma

Why Peppers & Herbs Love High Potassium

🌶️
Hotter Peppers
Potassium increases capsaicin production for spicier peppers with more complex flavors
🌿
Aromatic Herbs
Enhances essential oil production for more flavorful and aromatic herbs
🛡️
Disease Resistance
Strengthens cell walls to resist fungal infections and bacterial diseases
📦
Longer Shelf Life
Improves firmness and reduces post-harvest deterioration
💧
Drought Tolerance
Improves water use efficiency and stress resistance
🎨
Vibrant Colors
Enhances pigment development for brighter, more attractive produce

Micronutrient Synergy

Our formula includes carefully balanced micronutrients that work synergistically with the NPK ratio:

Chelated Iron (Fe) - 0.10%
Essential for chlorophyll synthesis and enzyme function. Chelated form ensures availability even in alkaline soils. Prevents yellowing between leaf veins and enhances photosynthesis.
Chelated Manganese (Mn) - 0.05%
Activates enzymes involved in photosynthesis and nitrogen metabolism. Critical for disease resistance and essential oil production in herbs.
Chelated Zinc (Zn) - 0.05%
Required for auxin production and protein synthesis. Improves fruit set in peppers and enhances aromatic compound production in herbs.
Chelated Copper (Cu) - 0.05%
Involved in lignin synthesis for strong cell walls. Enhances disease resistance and improves fruit quality and color development.
Boron (B) - 0.02%
Critical for cell wall formation and sugar transport. Prevents blossom drop in peppers and improves pollination success.
Molybdenum (Mo) - 0.0005%
Essential for nitrogen fixation and nitrate reduction. Though needed in tiny amounts, deficiency causes yellowing and stunting.

Can I use this fertilizer for all types of peppers and herbs?

Yes! This formula is ideal for:

  • All Pepper Varieties: Bell peppers, hot peppers, sweet peppers, specialty peppers
  • Culinary Herbs: Basil, cilantro, parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary, sage, mint
  • Umbellifers: Dill, fennel, caraway, celery, chervil
  • Aromatic Plants: Lavender, lemon balm, chamomile

Adjust application rates based on plant size - smaller herbs need about half the amount of peppers.

How do I boost nitrogen for leafy herbs?

Some herbs like basil and cilantro benefit from extra nitrogen during vegetative growth:

For Soil Growing:

For Hydroponics:

  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of Calcium Nitrate per 100 gallons
  • Or use Potassium Nitrate for extra potassium too
  • Monitor EC levels and adjust accordingly
How can I maximize essential oil production in herbs?

To enhance aromatic compound and essential oil production:

  • Stress the plants slightly: Reduce watering 1-2 days before harvest
  • Harvest timing: Pick herbs in early morning after dew dries
  • Potassium boost: Apply extra 11-11-40 during flowering

Pro tips for maximum heat:

  • Slightly stress plants by reducing water (but don't wilt)
  • Apply weekly during fruit development
  • Use foliar sprays for quick potassium uptake
  • Harvest when fully ripe for maximum capsaicin

Paper bag?

Not sure who the idiot is that thought putting chemicals in a paper bag and mailing them across the country was a good idea but you need to fire them immediately. When I opened the package the chemicals went everywhere. I have bought from you for many years - never again

We are truly sorry for this terrible experience and completely understand your frustration.
You're absolutely right to be upset - this packaging failure is unacceptable, especially for a loyal customer who has supported us for many years. We take full responsibility for this mess.
We recently switched to compostable paper-based packaging as part of our sustainability efforts, but we're now aware this has created serious shipping problems. While our organic fertilizer is not a toxic chemical and is safe to handle, having any product spill during shipping is completely unacceptable and creates an unnecessary mess and safety concern.
We're actively working to source more durable compostable packaging alternatives that will properly protect your order during transit while maintaining our environmental commitment.

Fertilizer

Nice packaging, but it got damp in transit and leaked! I appreciate your prompt delivery and I am anxious to see the results from using this fertilizer.
Thank you.

Great fertilizer

Does a great job. Plants are happy. It's a bit expensive though considering jacks and southern ag 20-20-20 is like 75 for 25lbs. They have much lower levels of micros but I'm not sure if the difference is worth the price disparity.
