Our Story

Dr. Mounir Girgius founded Greenway Biotech, Inc. in 1989 after serving Southern California for over 20 years. When he decided to sell due to health matters, I (Amir Tajer) saw my chance.

I had just graduated from Washington State University with a mechanical engineering degree—21 years old, zero business experience, and eager to build something of my own.

Most of my family and friends thought I was making a huge mistake. They said I should get a "safe" job or go back for a master's degree first. But I knew myself. I didn't have the personality to work for someone else. Ever since I was a kid, I had dreamed of having my own business.

I looked at everything from manufacturing kit cars to franchise restaurants, but nothing clicked. I needed to do something that would positively influence the world—something fulfilling. That's when I found Greenway Biotech. It reminded me of what my parents always told me growing up: "The best business is the food business."

Learning the Ropes

When I joined Greenway in 2012, I didn't know much about the industry. I spent countless hours reading and learning about agriculture. What hooked me was the idea of growing your own food without the harmful chemicals in most commercial fertilizers.

This hit home personally. At the time, I was struggling—about 300 lbs, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I had battled my weight since age fourteen. At one point I was exercising four or five times a week and still not seeing results. My mom jogged every day and for years tried to get me to join her, but I never did. I loved fast food too much.

It wasn't until I spoke with a nutritionist that everything clicked: the most important factor in our health is diet. Once I changed what I ate, I lost eighty pounds.

That's when I knew. Helping others become healthier—helping them grow their own food and lead healthier lives—was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

A New Direction

When I became CEO, over 98% of our sales came from commercial clients—nurseries, landscape companies, golf courses. We had never sold directly to the public.

In 2013, we changed that. We opened our doors online for the first time in 24 years.

Within months, over 90% of our sales were coming from homeowners like you. And when customers started asking for personal care products, we listened. That's how our wellness line was born—Magnesium Chloride, Epsom Salt, and more.

With your support, we grew sales over 1,000% in less than four years.

Putting Down New Roots

In 2024, we made a big move—relocating from Santa Fe Springs to Madera, California, right in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Being surrounded by California's agricultural heartland just feels right for a company dedicated to helping things grow.

Around the same time, I married Sasha, and she came on board as co-owner. She brings the creativity, artistry, and whimsy to Greenway that I never could on my own. While I geek out over fertilizer chemistry and nutrient ratios, she's the one making sure our brand has soul—and that you feel the care we put into every order.

And now, God willing, we're expecting our first child in just a few weeks. What started as a young entrepreneur's dream is becoming a true family business—one we hope to pass down to the next generation.

Thank You

From a 21-year-old with a dream to a family-run company over 35 years strong, this journey has been incredible. None of it would be possible without our loyal customers.

We appreciate your choice to live a healthy lifestyle and care for our environment.

Thank you for growing with Greenway.
