Dolomite Lime (22.7% Ca + 11.8% Mg)

Transform acidic soil into a thriving growing environment with our premium Dolomite Lime powder. This natural soil amendment "sweetens" acidic soil while providing essential calcium (22.7%) and magnesium (11.8%) that plants need. Particularly slow-acting, it creates lasting pH balance when added before planting, ensuring optimal nutrient availability throughout the growing season.

📦 Shipping Note: Depending on your location, 50 lb bags may ship as two 25 lb bags for easier handling.

📈 Raises Soil pH

Neutralizes acidic soils (pH 4-6) to create optimal growing conditions for most plants.

🌱 Dual Nutrient Supply

Provides 22.7% calcium for cell walls plus 11.8% magnesium for chlorophyll production.

⏱️ Slow-Acting Formula

Gradual release ensures stable pH correction without shocking plants or soil biology.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
  • Premium Quality Limestone: Fine powder form for faster soil reaction than pelletized lime
  • 22.7% Calcium Content: Essential for strong cell walls, root development, and fruit quality
  • 11.8% Magnesium Content: Critical for photosynthesis and enzyme activation
  • pH Correction Power: Effectively raises soil pH from acidic to neutral range
  • Long-Lasting Effects: Slow-acting formula provides pH stability for months
  • Multi-Purpose Use: Perfect for gardens, lawns, composting, and animal feed
  • Improves Nutrient Availability: Optimal pH unlocks nutrients already in soil
  • Enhances Soil Structure: Helps clay soils become more workable
COMMON USES

Dolomite Lime serves multiple purposes in gardening and agriculture:

  • pH Adjustment: Primary use for neutralizing acidic soils
  • Fertilizer Component: Mixed with other nutrients for complete nutrition
  • Composting Aid: Speeds decomposition and balances compost pH
  • Animal Feed Supplement: Provides calcium and magnesium for livestock
  • Magnesium Deficiency: Corrects yellowing between leaf veins
  • Fruit Trees: Apple, citrus, and pear trees thrive with dolomite additions
  • Lawn Care: Creates ideal pH for grass growth and health
  • Vegetable Gardens: Most vegetables prefer slightly acidic to neutral pH
APPLICATION RATES & DIRECTIONS

Apply dolomite lime well before planting for best results. Work into top 6-8 inches of soil.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is dolomite lime and how does it differ from regular lime?

Dolomite lime is a natural limestone containing both calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. The key differences from regular lime are:

  • Dual nutrients: Contains 22.7% calcium AND 11.8% magnesium (regular lime is mostly calcium)
  • Slower acting: Takes 2-6 months for full effect vs. 1-3 months for calcitic lime
  • Better for Mg-deficient soils: Ideal when soil tests show low magnesium
  • pH raising power: Slightly less neutralizing power than pure calcitic lime

Choose dolomite when you need both calcium and magnesium, or when soil tests show magnesium deficiency along with low pH.

When and how should I apply dolomite lime?

Best timing:

  • Fall application: Ideal for spring planting - gives lime time to react
  • 3-4 weeks before planting: Minimum time needed for initial pH change
  • Winter for lawns: Balances acidity from fertilizer applications
  • Avoid: Fresh application right before planting seeds

Application method:

  1. Test soil pH first - don't guess!
  2. Calculate amount needed based on current and target pH
  3. Spread evenly using broadcast spreader or by hand
  4. Work into top 6-8 inches of soil
  5. Water thoroughly to activate
  6. Retest pH after 3-6 months

Pro tip: Split large applications (over 50 lbs/1000 sq ft) into two treatments 6 months apart.

Which plants benefit most from dolomite lime?

Plants that love dolomite lime (pH 6.5-7.0):

  • Vegetables: Brassicas (cabbage, broccoli), beets, asparagus, spinach
  • Fruits: Apple trees, cherry trees, pear trees
  • Lawns: Most turfgrasses prefer pH 6.0-7.0
  • Flowers: Clematis, delphiniums, sweet peas

Plants to avoid liming (prefer acidic soil):

  • Blueberries, azaleas, rhododendrons (pH 4.5-5.5)
  • Potatoes (can develop scab in alkaline soil)
  • Pine trees, oak trees
  • Hydrangeas (for blue flowers)

Special benefit crops: Plants showing magnesium deficiency (yellowing between leaf veins) benefit especially from dolomite's magnesium content, including tomatoes, peppers, and roses.
