Once Spring ends, it’s common to think that your garden can’t be as productive.

While it’s true that your plants’ growth may slow as temperatures drop outside, this doesn’t mean that you must halt your gardening efforts completely.

One of the easiest ways to work around the winter weather is by planting an indoor garden! The key to growing successfully indoors is threefold:

While we can only do so much to help you with numbers one and two above, we can lead you in the right direction with number three by suggesting the following plants for your indoor winter garden.

 1. Lettuce

Loose-leaf lettuce varieties like Black Seeded Simpson and Tom Thumb are the most suitable for indoor growing.

Not to mention they thrive in cooler temperatures resulting in flavorful leaves your tastebuds will love!

2. Spinach

Spinach varieties can be broken down by flavor: savory, semi-savory or smooth leafed. It all depends on which type you prefer to plant.

You'll also want to keep in mind your indoor growing environment (humidity, temperature, etc.) when selecting the spinach type as growing conditions vary by plant variety.

3. Chives

Chives are one of the easiest plants to grow indoors during winter because they tolerate temperature fluctuations better than most.

There are two main varieties of chives, both of which require similar growing conditions: Common Chives and Garlic Chives.

6. Lavender

Like many of the plants listed above, lavender is low maintenance. It will grow best in a cooler room avoiding any blasts of hot air that may come from a heater.
